The theory of cognitive development was developed by two theorist named Lev Vygotsky and Jean Piaget.

Piaget believed that children think differently from adults and that is why she developed the four stages of cognitive development. Each of the stages must be completed before moving onto the next one. The stages start at birth and go to 12 years and older.

Leo Vygotsky:
Vygotsky believes that children learn behaviors through contact from the others around them. Because of this he believes that all learning is based on culture because all people are situated with their own culture. Rather than stages, Vygotsky developed three ways that support the idea that behavior is passed from a child's surrounding to the child
